My journey with photography began in junior high school, when my father gave me a second-hand Argus C3 rangefinder. That simple, all-manual camera sparked a lifelong passion that continues to grow to this day.
While serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, I picked up a Canon FTb SLR—a camera I still use from time to time. It’s more than just a tool; it’s a reminder of where this journey started. Over the years, I’ve moved from film to digital, evolving from early point-and-shoots to the Canon 40D, then the 6D, and now primarily shooting with the Canon R6.
My work focuses on landscapes, nature, and travel—often blending visual storytelling with emotional and symbolic depth. Two recurring themes hold special meaning for me: stone angels and lighthouses.
To me, stone angels and other cemetery sculptures are more than memorials—they are timeless public artworks, spiritual and serene, connecting the earthly with the divine. Lighthouses, by contrast, are symbols of strength and guidance. Each one is unique, weathered by storms, yet steadfast—metaphors for resilience, grace, and purpose.
Through my photography, I aim to capture not just what I see, but what I feel—and hopefully, what you can feel too.
My work is inspired by some of the most moving landscapes and meaningful locations I’ve explored:
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula – Wild forests, cascading waterfalls, and the breathtaking cliffs of Pictured Rocks make this a dream for any landscape photographer.
Outer Banks, North Carolina – Iconic lighthouses like Cape Hatteras and Bodie Island stand tall against the Atlantic, offering dramatic coastal scenes.
Savannah, Georgia– Cobblestoned squares and parks shaded by oak trees covered with Spanish moss, lighthouses, Southern Hospitality.
Charleston, South Carolina – The Holy City, cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses, lighthouses.
Shenandoah National Park, Virginia – Especially during fall, this park bursts into a tapestry of color, perfect for capturing nature in transition.
Originally from Michigan, I’ve had the privilege of living and serving across the U.S. and Europe – from Germany to Washington State, Georgia, and now Virginia. After retiring from my career in public service, I’ve shifted my focus to photography, spending more time capturing the scenes that inspire me.
